Kennametal Inc. (Latrobe, PA) will acquire Tricon Metals & Services Inc. (Birmingham, AL). Tricon is a provider of custom wear solutions specializing in consumable proprietary steels for the surface and underground mining markets, including hard rock and coal. Solutions include cladded products, wear pins, shafting, and custom fabrications. The company will become part of Kennametal's Advanced Materials Solutions Group.

Wetmore Tool and Engineering (Chinon, CA) has acquired Sterling Carbide Inc. (Chino, CA). This will expand the Wetmore carbide lines of both adapted-shank and straightshank cutting tools which are used for composite drilling in the aircraft industry.

Piovan, Santa Maria di Sala, (Italy) a company involved in plant engineering for the plastics processing industry, has purchased Universal Dynamics Inc. (Woodbridge, VA), a manufacturer of plastic-processing equipment. The company is a former subsidiary of Mann & Hummerl (Ludwigsburg, Germany).

Kaman Corp. (Windsor, CT) has acquired Industrial Rubber and Mechanics Inc. (Puerto Rico), This company distributes fluid power products, industrial hoses, belting, and conveyor systems.

Precision Castparts Corp. (Portland, OR) has acquired Fatigue Technology Inc. (Seattle, WA). This company specializes in applications for the coldexpansion process, which extends fatigue life in both metal and composites. Precision Castparts manufactures complex metal components and products, chiefly for the automotive, aerospace, and power-generation industries.
